Pre requisites
So I have been thinking a lot lately about going back to school to get my Masters degree. I currently have a Bachelors in Fine Arts and am looking to completely go a different route into the sciences, more specifically Dietetics. When I was browsing on the school website, I specifically read that a person with a non-science degree can apply to a Masters degree in Food and Science with a good chance of getting in. I was pretty excited about this, expecting of course that I would have to do some pre-requisites in science and math in order to get in. I wrote to the academic advisor with some questions I had about the course and she informed me that I would have to do my Bachelor degree in Dietetics, followed by an internship. I was a little disappointed with this news as you can imagine. I have already spent 4 years and a lot of money in my life to get my Bachelor Degree, now I would have to do it over, but I would also have to do a years worth of science core classes such as chemistry, biology, and math.
I mean I suppose it makes sense, but I was really looking forward to the challenge of Graduate school and have to face the fact that if I chose to go this route I could be in school for another 5 years (I’m 30 by the way). SO is it worth it???
I had almost given up on the thought of going back to school, because of the time and money that it would cost me. But I started to think about it more and more, and I realized that if I do not do this now, I might never do it. The first thing I had to do was the year’s worth of core sciences, which include chemistry, biology and math, however after talking to a councilor I would have to take the pre requisite intro courses to those as well (it never ends) I might as well go all the way back to high school for crying out loud!!! Each of these courses cost $275 each, so it would cost me $875 for the first semester alone, and that does not include books. I tried to sign up for student loans but had missed the deadline for that and was running short on time to get money.
That’s when I turned to the internet for help. I was left with no other choice but to take out a payday loan. I applied online and filled out their form. I was glad that they didn’t do a credit check, because I’m trying to keep my credit good so I can buy a house once I start working. I was pretty happy with the over all process, I was happy about the fact that I was going to pay higher interest for this kind of loan, but I found a site that had great rates and went with it. Fortunately I have a part time job that pays well, and I was able to pay off the loan in two payments. Over all it was a great experience. I’m happy I did it, I am now on my way to doing something better with my life so it was worth it.
